Tone Quality is Always First

If you have been a member of a competitive marching band, you are familiar with a judges sheet. The first catagory on any sheet is Tone Quality. This aspect usually earns a band the most points. Why? The tone of a band is that bands signature. The bands tone quality is the bands identity. When you meet someone for the first time you introduce yourself by saying, "Hi, my name is ____________ _________________ .
This what the band says when they play the first note. Take a listen to the USC Trojan band. They have a unique tone quality that clearly identifies them as USC.
